Thekua: India's Heritage Fried & Baked Snack
Thekua is a traditional wheat-flour snack from Bihar, deep-fried or oven-baked and typically sweetened with jaggery or sugar - widely prepared as prasad during Chhath Puja. ANORAA makes Thekua with pure desi ghee across Classic, Heritage Gur, Lite and Gluten-Free variants, available fried or baked, in 200g, 400g and 900g packs.
Our Thekua Range
Fried vs Baked Thekua
Fried Thekua follows the traditional deep-fried method, giving a denser, richer bite. Baked Thekua uses the same dough, oven-baked instead of fried, for a lighter, crunchier texture - both are made with the same pure-desi-ghee recipe and no palm oil. Pick whichever texture you prefer; neither is "healthier" than the other, they're simply different cooking methods.
How Thekua Is Traditionally Made
Thekua dough is typically made from wheat flour, ghee and a jaggery or sugar syrup, shaped by hand (often with a wooden mould for the signature pattern) and then deep-fried or baked until firm and golden. Exact recipes and techniques vary by family and region across Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
